Who calls?
Ayomi, an AI voice companion. It is not a person, and she knows that from the first call.
Will she realise it's a machine?
We tell her ourselves before she even has time to ask.
Does she need to install anything?
Nothing. It's just her usual phone ringing.
What time does it call?
Whatever time she chooses, the same every day.
What if she doesn't pick up?
It tries again, and you'll see it in the summary. Ayomi is not an emergency service.
What if she speaks quietly, has a strong accent, or doesn't always catch things?
Ayomi speaks slowly, in short sentences, and never hurries her. If it doesn't understand something, it doesn't pretend it did: it asks again, calmly. And she can ask it to repeat anything, as often as she likes. It isn't perfect — the odd word can get lost — and when that happens, the conversation simply carries on, without any fuss.
Does Ayomi track her health or alert us if something happens?
No. Ayomi talks with her. It doesn't measure anything, doesn't step in during an emergency, and doesn't manage anything medical. If there's an emergency, the answer is 112 (or the local emergency number) or family.
Does it replace my call?
No, and we don't want it to. If you can call her every day, you don't need us.
What do you tell us after each call?
A summary by email: what she talked about, what made her smile. Never the audio or the transcript.
Are calls recorded?
They are processed to hold the conversation and build the summary, and only the minimum necessary is kept.
What if she doesn't want it?
It stops, even if the subscription is paid.
Can I cancel whenever I want?
Yes, no minimum term.
There are free befriending calls in Ireland — why pay?
There are, and they're good: we'll tell you where to find them. They depend on a volunteer having time and aren't always daily. Ayomi is every day, at the fixed time she chooses.
